3.         What are my obligations if I browse the On Line Plan? What are my obligations if I save the plan for future use?

The online plan is a free planing tool for our clients. It also gives a probable budget for a well-planned wedding using the best professionals in Sri Lanka. We hope that the "Budget" will help clients to make their own prices and see how to cut down on wasteful spending. There are no obligations to browse the plans or save them. You can save as many plans as you wish for comparison in "My Home Page"  We may send you a friendly email on saving the plan as a promotion. When saving a plan you may use the question box provided, if you have any questions, without any obligation to place an order.  Planning will start only on registration.

4.         What are the Legal Requirements to register a wedding in Sri Lanka?

Couples contemplating a Destination Wedding in Sri Lanka should comply with the following requirements if they wish to register the marriage and obtain a legal marriage certificate from the Sri Lanka Government.

The couple needs to arrive in Sri Lanka at least 4 days before the wedding. Registration of the marriage can be done on the 5th day or thereafter. The dates are counted from the date of arrival stamped on the Passport. We recommend 7 days stay in the country.

The couple should send photocopies of the following documents to reach us at least 4 weeks before the wedding for pre-approval of the marriage, and they should bring the originals with them on arrival in Sri Lanka. All documents must be in English; if any of the original certificates or papers is in a different language they must supply an official translation in English.

  1. Birth certificates.
  2. Decree(s) absolute if the bride or groom or both are divorced.
  3. Death certificate of former spouse(s) if party is a widow/widower.
  4. Evidence of parents consent in the form of a sworn affidavit stamped by a Notary Public if either person is under 18 years of age.
  5. Certificate concerning any names changed by deed of poll.
  6. Unmarried /Single Status certificate: If the bride or groom or both have never married before, an affidavit or affidavits signed by a solicitor, stating that neither the bride nor groom has been previously married and that there is no legal objection to the marriage.
  7. Statutory Declaration: You could submit this as an affidavit, one for each. The following information must be included.
    1. Full names and addresses of the bride /groom.
    2. Professions of the bride / groom and name and address of work place or organization.
    3. Full names of both parents, addresses and their professions.

  8. Copy of the passport (first page with name)

It is the client’s duty to inquire and make sure that they comply with the laws of their country of permanent residence/citizenship by consulting their Embassy/Consulate and the Sri Lanka Embassy/Consulate for the proper format for the issuance of valid affidavits and unmarried certificates.

In general you may have to follow the following in obtaining the documents for:

1.) Unmarried /Single Status certificate:
There are 2 ways to obtain this certificate. Either option is valid in Sri Lanka. You will have to obtain two certificates, one for each of you and should be countersigned by the Sri Lanka Embassy/Mission/Consulate of your country.
 
Option 1: You could obtain this certificate from your relevant Consular Division/Embassy/Consulate in your country.

Option 2: You could submit this as an affidavit, but your signatures should be attested by the relevant Consulate General.

2.) Statutory Declaration:
You will have to obtain two affidavits, one for each. The following information must be included.

  1. Full names and addresses of the bride /groom.
  2. Professions of the bride / groom and name and address of work place or organization.
  3. Full names of both parents, addresses and their professions.

Information of Statutory Declaration will be used to fill up relevant fields in the Marriage Certificate and information not provided or available will be indicated as “Unknown” or “Not Available”.

The above statements are meant for guidance only. Proper guidance should be obtained from your country of residence and the Sri Lanka mission in such country. We undertake to present photo copies of such papers to Government approved registrars in the location you intend to marry in Sri Lanka for the purpose of pre-approval and the originals to issue the marriage certificate. The said originals should be brought with you. The onus of providing valid documents rests with the couple who provides them.

5.         I need General Information for Church Weddings registration

Before we book a church we need the following documents. If the Church ceremony is accompanied by a Hotel Reception, then both the Hotel Banquet Hall and the Church should be booked simultaneously. The Church may also require you to attend religious classes in your Parish and sometimes may be in the Sri Lanka Church you selected. Therefore before you plan a Church Wedding, please have the following ready.

  1. Baptismal certificates.
  2. Letter from the Parish priest confirming that you are from his church and that you have never married. No divorcees for church weddings.
  3. Birth Certificates
  4. Affidavits from two different lawyers to say that you are single and never married.
  5. Permanent address of both parties.
  6. Profession and name and address of place of work.
  7. Full names and addresses of Parents of both parties.
  8. Mixed marriages may need other documents signed by the parties.
  9. Churches are very strict on their requirements, so please make sure that you have all the requirements before you plan the wedding.
  10. If at least one of you belong to a parish in Sri Lanka, it is best to contact the parish directly.

Make sure that other church ceremonies and functions do not clash with the wedding plans.

  1.  (EG: Saturday vigil services may clash with an evening wedding)
  2. Availability of the Priest of your choice for the service and homily.

Copies of documents should be sent to us early to confirm the church details. It is best that you clear, the church requirements, before you plan the wedding.

6.         How many times can I change my on line plan?

Once you save the plan you can visit it as many times as you please or by using your account you created, you could save multiple plans and visit them by loging in to "My Home Page" You can then mix, match and discuss with your family, friends and loved once before retaing us and starting the coordination and planning cessions. You can also save the packages, Elegant, 3-in-1 and gift plan or non Sri Lankan Plans for comparison.

7.         When do I start paying for the services?

Once you come up with a plan (Please take your time in planning) you can register with us by paying a small deductible initiation fee. We will immediately start the planning processes according to the plan submitted. We provide a probable budget to help you in costing. Your choices of service professionals. quality of meterial you select will ditermin the actual cost of a wedding.  You will select the provider and we will book their services. At this time you are obliged to pay advances or you could loose the services of the provider. You can also choose your providers and let us know. While the plan will help you to budget, it does not give you exact amounts that you may ultimately spend. This is a best bet on a budget if you stick to it. Our fee will depend on the total services we provide. When you register, you will have access to planning cessions and material that will help you in the planning process. Saving Plans is absolutely FREE, you have to pay our deductible fee only at registration when you decide to retain us.

8.         Do I have to go to Sri Lanka during the planning stages?
You can plan on our unique wedding planner from anywhere in the world, in the confine of your own home and save multiple plans and discuss them with your loved ones. If you are abroad you do not have to be in Sri Lanka until one week prior to the wedding. (Two weeks will be ideal) Once you register and retain us we do the booking and planning for you on line all the way. You can pay on line or at the branch office and we will obtain receipts and retain them for you or fax them. We will set up a comprehensive and coordinated plan for you to visit the professionals that you have booked. Our coordinator will be available to meet the professionals and introduce them to you If you request we will also have a coordinator available to accompany you and to take you around Colombo to select your wardrobe and etc.. Our coordinators will not visit your homes for planning cessions unless if authorized by the Head Office. (You will pay for the transportation)

9.         Am I obliged to pay the total amount arrived on the plan when I register the plan?
No. The online plan is a budgeting tool that gives a best estimate of probable cost that you could spend according to the plan you tailored for yourself. The actual payment will be on your final selections. A budget needs discipline once arrived and we will help you to keep within the budget. To book the Professionals, Hotels, Resorts etc. you will have to make deposits in our counter or in our corporate accounts in Sri Lanka or the US in the appropriate currency exchange rates and bank charges. You can also pay it directly to the service provider and give us copies of receipts.

10.       What are your obligations once we place an order?

We will immediately start arranging the wedding as planned and consult the service providers for availability and inform you. If one is not available we will consult your second or third choice that are available for the plan you registered or recomend others that are available. On your approval and payment we will make firm bookings for the wedding day you have indicated in the plan. (Professionals serve on a first come first served basis) Our plan allows you to choose your own providers. Please visit our list of Professionals and General Information for more details. 11.       Can we suggest the providers we require and could you book them for us?

Yes. We can do that and we can do the booking if the providers are available for that day and time.

12.       When do I make the final payments?

The final payments are due when you arrive in Sri Lanka for the wedding and the final OK is given to the service provider. Full payment is generally due two weeks prior to the wedding but definitely prior to the wedding. The payments can be made at our counter, directly to the service provider, to our corporate accounts in Colombo or the US at appropriate exchange rates and conversion and bank charges.

13.       If I am not happy with the plan and need to change it, can I do so?

Yes & No: You can change the plan as long as you go with the service provider you have booked and paid for. If you change the provider you may loose the deposits made. If you still want to make the change we will try to accommodate the change if the other provider is available and willing to undertake your order. You will pay a further advance to this provider. We cannot guarantee any refunds. Please read the refund policies under terms, conditions and policies.

14.        After making the bookings and deposits and I change my mind, will I be able to get refunds?

Generally, you cannot get refunds. The service providers may have refused other bookings to fill their obligation to you. If the cancellation is due to very good reasons we will try our best to get the refunds. However you will be still charged a service fee for these extra efforts made on your behalf. Please read the refund policies under terms, conditions and policies.

15.       By planning on your online plan, are we paying any extras?

Absolutely No. You will pay the normal charges that the service providers will charge you for the services you request. We will try to get the best possible rates wherever we can. We will charge you a nominal fee for the services we provide in planning and coordinating your wedding. In fact you will make considerable savings by allowing us to plan the wedding to fit your budget. Planning a wedding is a tough and tedious job and that is what we are equipped to do. By hiring us you will be interacting with well-versed coordinators that will eventually save money and time and most of all the aggravation of planning.

17.             What services do you provide when we retain you for the online wedding plan?

  • We are a full service Wedding Planner that coordinates weddings from A to Z (The following is a glimpse of what we do)
  • On saving the plan we send you a thank you note or will answer any questions as a token of appreciation. .

A. When you retain us by paying the deductible fee

  • We check the availability of the Hotels of Your Choice and recommend others if your choice is not available
  • Check the availability of the Poruwa MC, Kovil or Church of your choice for the same time and day
  • Check the availability of the Professionals of your choice and recommend others if your choice is not available
  • We will also get a tentative booking from the Hotel on receipt of a commitment from the client
  • To book church weddings we need certain certificates required by the Church, be ready with these requirements.
  • The religious ceremony and the reception hall (when they are in separate locations) need to be booked simultaneously.
  • We coordinate the above online, by telephone or fax.


B. When you pay the advances we do the following:

  • We start the planning process online/by fax/by telephone/digital pictures etc and communicate all planning details including color coordination, measurements, bookings etc, etc.
  • Visit the Hotel and pay the advance and obtain the contract, fax the contract to the client and get the approval of the client and then sign on behalf of the client and register post back to the client.
  • Advice and make the best seating arrangements and placement of tables
  • Pay all advances to the Professionals and get receipts. These are filed and kept for the client's arrival in Sri Lanka. Client will be notified by email.
  • We open our planning kit to the client to help in the planning process. We hope to have this on line to those who have registered with us. 
  • We will also send the Hotel Menu of the final hotel booked by email or Fax
  • We schedule all appointments and send the client the list prior to their arrival in Sri Lanka.
  • Hope you get the picture of the complex planning process.

C. On the Clients Arrival in Sri Lanka

  • When the client is in Sri Lanka we accompany them and introduce them to the Professionals and the Hotel Banquets Manager and help in choosing the menus, and speak with the chef, check out the hotel hall, meet the bridal dressing person and organizing the trials, selection of flowers and designs, meet with the photographer, the priest, MC (Asthaka) or Kovil authorities etc.
  • We will help the client in their shopping for saris and bridal attire, choosing the cake structure, meet the sewing person for the designs and measurements, getting jewelry ordered and any other services needed.
  • This includes the bridal party, Groom and parents.


D. On the wedding day and immediately prior to it

  • The day before the wedding we make sure that the Bride (The Groom is on his own!!!) and all of the immediate families are relaxed while we do the organizing.
  • We recommend a good nights sleep before the wedding and on the wedding day we let the bride relax.
  • We will take care of the final payments to the Professionals and Hotel etc. (Of course the client pays)
  • On the Wedding Day we supervise decor, arrival of cakes and structure, arrival of band, decoration of church or Kovil leaving hymn cards, getting the offertory things ready for church weddings and supervising the rehearsals of choir and soloist etc, supervision of photography, supervision of poruwa setting up, being by the poruwa to hand over all the things needed during the ceremony, supervising cake serving and drinks etc and bar service.
  • Timing of the events, getting the bouquets to the hotel in time, supervising the going away change etc.
  • Timing is of the essence at all weddings that is why clients appreciate our work as they are not hassled and stressed out and the families can enjoy the whole event without running around organizing.
  • Please note that traveling around in Sri Lanka to meet the Professionals is at the client’s expense.
  • If you need to meet the professionals before retaining them, we recommend that you visit Sri Lanka nine months prior to the wedding. We will schedule such an event.
  • For home coming ceremonies we do similar arrangements but the client has to pay an extra negotiable fee.
  • When the wedding ceremony and the reception are in two different locations we will charge a nominal extra fee due to the extra work involved.

18.I need more info on how the wedding planner program works

  • Browse our Professionals list (You can suggest your own professional.)
  • Call or email our Info desk for help if needed.
  • Read the Terms and conditions & Policies for a better understanding.
  • Obtain an account and Browse the planner FREE.
  • Click on Start Planning
  • Login and start selecting your plan (It is best to login before doing your plan).
  • After selection click on PROCEED to arrive at a summary page.
  • The budget, which is a Probable Cost is divided into Silver Gold and Platinum and Providers 1, 2, and 3 Silver Provider 1 will give you the lowest probable cost and Platinum Provider 3 the highest probable cost. This is only a guide and your cost will completely depend on your requirements and budget.Go to Free Saving and save the plan. It will be saved in "My Home Page"
  • Write down your password in a safe place (Do not give it to anyone else) you will need the email address and password to visit your saved plans on your own “My Home Page”.
  • Visit the plan as many times as you wish and save other plans for comparison
  • Discuss your special needs in the message box provided. If you are not yet ready and need more info call us or send an email to our info desk.
  • You can delete plans from your home page that we have not yet started planning.
  • When you decide on your final plan register and submit that final plan.
  • On submitting the plan we require a small deductible advance
  • We will immediately start working on your plan and keep you informed of the progress.
  • We will let you know the available Hotels of your choice.
  • If the Marriage ceremony is in a church/Kovil and reception at a Hotel you should book the Church/Kovil and Hotel simultaneously. If the church/Kovil and or the hotel is not available you can change the date or find other venues. We advice you to do this as quickly as possible, as they go by first come first served basis.
  • Use our Payment counter to pay the advances.
  • Since we pay the exact amount to the service provider we will charge any bank fees and exchange fees. You can make payments directly to the service provider if you so wish
  • The prices on the online plan are approximate estimates as charged by the professionals. The actual fee you pay will be what you agree with the professional.
  • Remember Budget Prices on the ONLINE PLAN is a guide for your benefit and not a package rate 
The Hotel Rates 'per head' for food, generally include, silk pleated buffet table, service tables, table for the cake structure, table for registration, a gift table and security guard, pahana, band stand, silver trays for serving cakes, free room for the wedding day for bridal dressing etc. A room for the couple for the night with breakfast the next morning is generally provided. A bar service is charged per head for hard liquor and wines instead of corkage for each bottle.

20.             The 3 in 1 plan gives a poruwa ceremony/Christian/Hindu/Muslim how should I proceed?

Please select the ceremony you prefer. The cost will be automatically adjusted for the selection you made. If prices differ at any time, we will let you know the price before you commit yourself to the plan. In some instances you may want to have a church and the Poruwa, especially in mixed marriages.

21.             What is the Gift of a Wedding Plan?

Sri Lankans are a generous people by tradition. They help their family and friends.  We have designed this for those generous people to donate a wedding plan for their loved ones or even strangers. WedInSriLanka designed this plan with generosity in mind. We plan to give a terrific wedding at almost cost. Please note that this plan can be given ONLY as a gift and a recipient has to be named. The recipient should accept the gift. Parents can book this plan as a gift to their children. The recipient cannot change the plan unless if we agree. We encourage our clients to be generous. This is also our gift to Sri Lanka’s needy. We may consider giving this plan to others who desire a low budget wedding. The Plan is Fixed.

23.             What is the Simplified Stylish Weddings, Packaged your way.

This plan is meant only for those who have a very good idea of what they require including the professionals they desire. This plan allows you to package your plan according to your wishes and request a price for the total package. It is flexible to a great extent. Once the package is accepted, no changes can be done unless you pay for the new extras you request. If you have requested your choice of professionals we cannot guarantee their availability until you pay 80% of the package price and we book the professionals. The hotels should be booked and a menu price established at time of booking. We will help you in arranging this package and confirming the prices for 6 days at which time you will have to pay the 80% advance. Please read our refund policies. Clients who are not familiar with the Planning Processes ar encouraged to visit the Online Wedding Planner, insted.

25.What is the advantage of publishing a proposal on this site?

We publish our web through different avenues and through mailing lists to as many Sri Lankan residents abroad and and at homein order for clients to have a larger exposure in finding a partner through these pages and it is free. The free message could have up to 400 charactors. We will allocate an advertisement number to each advertisement and only such number and country where the advertisement originated will be published on the website.

26. How do I advertise/Reply to an advertisement?

You have to register for membership with your email address and pasward> ( Please obtain a passward first or or log in if you are already a member, as only members can save documents/plans in this website) Replies to the advertisement will be directed internally through the website to preserve confidentiality. Those who use the site to reply should also register before they can reply.

27.Can I attach a document when I reply to an advertisement?

No attachments are possible on a reply. The reply will be directed to the advertiser to his/her given email address. Our advice is that you do not write your telephone number and email address on the body of the advertisement.

Advertisers are however free to write their email address/telephone number etc. on the body of the advertisement if they so desire and at their own greater risk as others, including search engines could copy this information.

28.When will my advertisement be published?

Proposals will be published within 48 hours and only on the approval of the Head Office. We have the right to modify the wording when it is felt appropriate or to delete the advertisement altogether. Any modified ads will be published.

29.How do I delete and advertisement?

The Head Office will delete advertisements periodically. If the advertiser want to delete an advertisement he/she should send an email using the identical email address used when the advertisement was placed, requesting us to delete the advertisement.

30.What is your experience in how many proposals have meterialized in marriage?

We have offered this service FREE since 2001 and have a good record of non-interference. We do not ask for or keep track of replies to proposals or their sucess. Please remember us when you find your partner. Effective March 1st 2011 those who find partner via our new website will get a 30% off on our Coordination fee. You are required to produce our advertisement number to claim the rebate. Good Luck.
